All apprentices will be required to successfully complete related curriculum for their related instruction, according to their apprenticeship program.

Every program includes structured on-the-job-training, where Apprentices gain hands-on training from an experienced mentor. On-the-job training is developed through mapping the skills and knowledge that the apprentice must learn over the course of the program to excel in the job.

Classroom instruction provides the technical, workforce and academic competencies that apply to the job. Classes are provided by Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc.

Apprentices will be scheduled for one class per semester, for a total of six to eight classes to be completed during the four-year Apprentice Program. Classes and books are paid by VCU Facilities Management.
